Looking after 120 Hectares that make up Australia’s National Capital

by Citywide | 15.12.2010
Graham Evans is Citywide’s team leader at the Old Parliament House Depot in the heritage listed Parliamentary Triangle of Canberra. Having arrived into Canberra in 2004, Graham brought a wealth of experience with him.

A 35 year veteran in the horticultural industry, he has worked for the Kew Golf Club, as a horticultural lecturer for TAFE College, and for various high profile landscape design companies and nurseries.

Today Graham and his team are the custodians of potentially one of the most diverse and prestigious historical landscapes in Australia. Encompassing both Australian and introduced tree species in classic parkland settings, sprinkled with iconic heritage listed national buildings, and 10,000 roses that make up the ‘Old Parliament House Rose Gardens’ and the ‘National Rose Garden,’ Graham is well and truly in his element.

Having primarily worked on the rose gardens since his arrival to Canberra in 2004, and an active member and volunteer of the ‘Friends of the Old Parliament House Rose Gardens,’ Graham’s experience and dedication has made him our resident expert.

Located in the heart of the Parliamentary Zone on either side of Old Parliament House, these gardens have for the past 6 years been restored to their former glory and enhanced with seating pavilions, pergolas, rose arbours, pathways, gateways and the refurbishment of the existing tennis courts and bowling green.
