In late October, six beautiful gardens were opened to the public in the picturesque bay side suburb of Brighton, Victoria. As part of the ‘Open Garden Day’ initiative, its purpose was to raise money for Family Life - a not for profit community organisation that helps struggling families by providing counselling, support groups, training and community development services in the Southern Metropolitan Region of Melbourne.
Citywide have been a major sponsor of the event for the past seven years, proudly contributing to the growing success of the event year after year.
As one of the first official sponsors, Citywide has been pivotal in developing the ‘Open Garden Day’ into a well-known and anticipated community event.
“Citywide is an organisation that prides its-self in shaping sustainable landscapes. It’s only natural that we get behind such a wonderful event assisting Family Life raise much needed funding for their cause, whilst providing local residents with the opportunity to experience some truly wonderful gardens,” said Erika Anderson, Citywide’s horticulture specialist based at the Bayside Community Nursery.
In addition to its sponsorship support, Citywide contributed on the day by running the Bayside Community Plant Nursery stand. The stand provided sample seedlings and information about growing indigenous plants, efficient water use and sustainable gardening tips.
Hard work and dedication has led to the event generating well over $150,000 in the past seven years.
This money contributes to running Family Life’s Creating Capable Communities program, which includes play groups, after school and breakfast clubs, leadership training and back-to-work courses to empower families and young people to become active and engaged members of the community.
