One year Anniversary for Dynon Road’s Waste Conveyor System

by Citywide | 10.03.2011
Some 70,000 tonnes of waste later, Citywide’s moving floor waste pit conveyor system is celebrating its first anniversary. Billed as one of the largest walking floor projects in Australia, it was part of an extensive $1.6 million upgrade of the Dynon Road Transfer Station.

Centrally located in Kensington, the Transfer Station is within easy reach of Melbourne’s surrounding inner suburbs.

The installation of the moving floor waste pit conveyor system has dramatically increased Citywide’s waste processing capacity to 200,000 tonnes per annum, and has significantly reduced truck waiting times adding to the efficiencies of the facilities waste management operations.

Citywide’s Environmental Divisional Manager Chris Ryan articulated Citywide’s goal to continually review and enhance our waste and recycling services that we can offer our clients. “The expansion of the transfer station is basically the start of a major initiative to ensure our Dynon Road facility becomes the centre of innovative recycling and waste management in Victoria”.

“Increasing capacity and efficiencies was the first step. Now that this has been achieved, we are shifting our focus to the feasibility of a development of alternate waste technologies. Ever decreasing land fill availability compounded by the fragility of our environment has made it imperative that organisations like Citywide to establish economically and environmentally sustainable solutions towards waste,” said Chris.

It is Citywide’s vision to eventually offer waste management services to both government and the private sector that have little or no adverse environmental consequences. Over the coming years, technology will play a critical role in the success of these initiatives.

“The more we can do towards establishing environmentally sustainable waste management solutions, the bigger the role we can play in preserving our environment and assisting government and business to reduce their environmental footprints,” said Chris.

Citywide’s Dynon Road waste processing facility is open seven days. Further information about our waste collection services can be obtained by contacting the site manager on 03 9823 2014
