Great Ocean Rd has been restricted to one lane due to stabilisation works occurring along the Apollo Bay stretch.
Civil Infrastructure provider, Citywide service Solutions, is currently patching and stabilising approximately 800sqm of the road due to substantial amounts of surface asphalt having cracked and sunk into the ground.
Civil Operations Coordinator Des Smith says the upgrades to the road surface will ensure conditions are much safer for anyone travelling along the Great Ocean Road.
“The current condition of the road surface of that section could have proved potentially unsafe to tourists and people unused to driving along the Great Ocean Road” said Mr Smith, “the upgraded surface will ensure smooth travelling for everyone”.
A number of materials will be used to patch the road including crushed rock to ensure the road is level in all areas along with cement, stone and emulsion to bind the materials together.
The stretch of Great Ocean Rd will be closed until the end of this week and Mr Smith says his staff will be working overtime to have the works completed by Monday.
