Canberra Rose Garden

Canberra Rose Garden - Citywide

In Focus: Old Parliament House Rose Garden

Since being awarded the contract for the provision of open spaces maintenance and management services in April 2010, the Citywide team has worked hard to reinvigorate the garden’s horticultural appeal and provide a standard of service appropriate to the site’s national significance.

Encompassing a range of both native and exotic plants throughout the diverse parkland settings, the NCA’s crowning glory is its 10,000 roses sprinkled throughout  the ‘Old Parliament House Rose Garden’ and the ‘National Rose Garden’.

Working in conjunction with the ‘Friends of the Rose Garden’ volunteer group, Citywide have been able to nurture theses rose back to health and back to their former glory. Coupled with these efforts, the Citywide team has also undertaken numerous initiatives to enhance the overall ambience of the gardens, including planting programs, site maintenance, the restoration of seating pavilions, pergolas, pathways, gateways and the resurfacing of existing tennis courts and bowling green.

With many of the gardens dating back close to the turn of the century, it was imperative Citywide could provide a service that would showcase and reinforce Canberra’s value, rich heritage and unique cultural appeal.
