Environmental Management and Planning System

Citywide recognises the importance of effective environmental management. Environmental sustainability is embedded into our business via corporate management systems and service delivery processes. The Citywide Environmental Sustainability Policy directs all operations and the company have implemented an ISO 14001 certified Environmental Management System across a number of contracts.

Environmental sustainability is reaffirmed consistently through internal communication and innovative campaigns such as the ‘Eco Champ’ Awards. Citywide continues to pioneer use of alternate fuels, such as compressed natural gas, compressed air and bio-diesel. We work with green organic recyclers to process green waste and offer Australia’s most environmentally sound asphalt product, GreenPave.

Citywide’s goal is to establish a culture of continuous environmental improvement in all delivery teams. All our people are cognisant of their responsibility to implement environmental management plans, prevent pollution, minimise the potential for adverse environmental impacts and explore improved environmental options, especially in relation to:

- Emissions to air (eg vehicle maintenance, dust, fumes, odour)
- Discharges to stormwater (eg spills of fuel, emulsion, paint, solvent, chemicals, waste material, hydraulic leaks, sediment run-off, litter)
- Soil and groundwater contamination (eg site clean up practices)
- Discharges to trade waste
- Disposal/transport of waste (eg recycling of waste)
- Inefficient use of resources (eg water, energy, materials)
- Protection of flora and fauna
- Noise emissions
- Protection of cultural heritage

Citywide’s environmental management systems are not ‘bolt-on’ systems. They have been developed with the input of the company’s experienced staff and augmented with the guidelines of industry best practice environmental policies.

Citywide’s Environmental Management System is certified to AS/NZS 14001: 2004 on certain contracts.
