Citywide has picked up a prestigious industry gong for its workplace learning program partnership with the Inner Eastern Local Learning and Employment Network (IELLEN - click to open in new window).

The Structured Workplace Learning (SWL) initiative creates opportunities for work experience and supports students to develop future employment pathways.

The IELLEN is one of 31 Local Learning and Employment Networks (LLENs) funded across Victoria by the State Government through the Department of Education and Training. Each LLEN has its own catchment area with the IELLEN largely covering the Cities of Stonnington, Port Phillip and Boroondara.

"Engagement with the community is at the core of our DNA and Structured Workplace Learning by design is a key strategic pillar in Citywide’s Development Framework," said Lavleen Goswami, Citywide's Training & Development Leader and Project Manager of the initiative with IELLEN.

"This has been brought to life by engaging in this pilot project with IELLEN and helping young people gain work experience and carve a pathway for future employment."

Citywide was presented with the award for Large Employer of the Year at the IELLEN's annual awards event.

The impact of this initiative and the award was further cemented with Rhett Christidis, jointly winning the award for Structured Workplace Learning Student of the Year.

Rhett has since expressed his desire to join Citywide as an apprentice in the Parks and Gardens stream.

The outcome has set an example of a solid industry and education sector partnership under the guidance of Citywide Operations Manager Neil Baker (LinkedIn) and on ground mentoring support by Steve Bratby (LinkedIn), Bridie Ross and Matthew Attard (pictured above with Rhett).
